In Discovering Valdelluna Part 1 I showed you the origins of Valdelluna in a Moomin-themed notebook, and in Part 2 I shared how it grew within the covers of a handmade journal. Upon filling those pages I determined the next step was to bring this world to vivid, colorful life the best way I knew how: as a comic book! But what a great undertaking is that. Before I got started making the actual material, first I made myself the ultimate reference book.
The Sketchbook Guide

The Sketchbook Guide is a live project contained in a rather luxurious Paperblanks notebook. I am using it to map out the stories and characters for three Valdelluna books—which I hope to publish as full color comic books.

Which brings me to the project in its present state: I am slowly but surely drawing out each of those little thumbnails and turning them into 14″x11″ watercolor paintings. When all is said and done they will be beautiful comic books, able to be read from their pictures alone.

As anyone will tell you making comics is a lot of work, and making color comics orders of magnitude more work. But Valdelluna has always been a joy to me, and I am taking the luxury of working on these pages slowly (but steadily) alongside other projects, knowing that the journey is as important as the destination, and that the last thing I want to do is burn out.
This journey would not have been possible without the continued support of my subscribers on Ko-Fi, Patreon, and the Heliopause CSA. If you would like to support the creation of Valdelluna, become a member today! You can also support by buying Valdelluna-themed merch from my shop.
Whatever route you choose, I know you will have a pleasant visit.

Look forward to it!
